Kitchen Helper Jobs in Bahrain 2026: Hotel & Restaurant Openings in Manama, Salary and LMRA Permit

A Small Island With a Big Appetite

Bahrain is the smallest country in the Gulf, but Manama eats out constantly. Weekend visitors arrive across the causeway from Saudi Arabia, hotel restaurants fill for Friday brunch, and the cafés of Adliya stay busy late into the night. Behind each of those kitchens is a team of helpers and stewards who wash, peel, carry, and clean so that the cooks can cook.

For workers from South Asia, Africa, and the Philippines, kitchen helper is one of the most accessible first jobs in the Gulf: most employers ask for no degree, many train beginners, and meals are normally provided. This is an independent editorial guide with indicative figures; we are not a recruiter.

Salary by Level

Bahrain has no statutory minimum wage for expatriate private-sector workers, so your pay is whatever is written in the contract registered with the labour authority. The ranges below are typical of what Manama employers offer. There is no personal income tax on salaries, and duty meals, housing, and overtime may be added on top.

LevelMonthly Pay (BHD)
Kitchen Helper / Steward (beginner)100 – 150
Experienced Kitchen Helper150 – 200
Commis III / Junior Cook180 – 250
Commis II / Demi Chef de Partie250 – 300+

Judge the Package, Not the Number

A salary of BHD 120 sounds small, and in isolation it is. What decides whether the job is worthwhile is what comes with it. If the employer provides shared accommodation, transport to work, meals on duty, medical cover, and a return ticket at the end of the contract, most of the cash wage can be saved or sent home. If you have to pay rent yourself, the same salary will not stretch far. Get every benefit listed in writing.

What You Will Do

The role is the backbone of the kitchen.

  • Washing dishes, pots, and utensils and running the dishwashing machine
  • Peeling, washing, and cutting vegetables for the cooks
  • Cleaning floors, worktops, fridges, and store rooms
  • Receiving deliveries and putting stock away correctly
  • Removing waste and keeping bins areas clean
  • Following hygiene rules on gloves, hairnets, and food temperatures

Who Is Hiring

Openings come from hotels and serviced apartments in Juffair, Seef, and the Diplomatic Area; restaurants and cafés in Adliya and Bahrain Bay; mall food courts; industrial caterers supplying labour camps, schools, and offices; and bakeries, shawarma shops, and delivery-only kitchens across the city.

Hotel Kitchen or Local Restaurant?

It is a real choice. International hotels generally offer better accommodation, structured training, clear grades, and a route to commis and cook positions; the standards are stricter and the kitchens larger. Small local restaurants may hire faster and with less paperwork, but hours can be longer and benefits thinner. If you want a career rather than a job, hotel and large catering groups are usually the better start.

Understanding the LMRA Work Permit

Foreign workers in Bahrain are sponsored by their employer and must hold a work permit issued by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA). The employer applies for it — you do not buy it. Working while on a visit visa is illegal and leaves you with no protection. Before travelling, make sure you have a signed contract and that your permit has been issued; after arrival you complete a medical check and receive your residence card.

Documents Checklist

You will normally need the following.

  • Passport valid for at least six months
  • Signed employment contract or offer letter
  • LMRA work permit arranged by the employer
  • Medical fitness certificate
  • Police clearance, if requested
  • Passport photographs and any experience letters

From Steward to Cook

Kitchens promote from within. A helper who is quick, clean, and curious can move to commis III within a year or two, then up the grades. Ask the chefs to show you knife work and basic preparations during quiet periods, and take any food-safety course the employer offers. Experience in a Bahraini hotel kitchen is also recognised by employers elsewhere in the Gulf.

Avoid Job Scams

Use licensed recruitment agencies in your home country and check hotel groups' own career pages. Do not pay large sums to anyone promising a Bahrain kitchen job, and refuse 'visit visa' arrangements. A genuine employer applies for your permit and gives you a contract to read before you fly.
